NDPWI EPWP National Youth Service (NYS) Artisan Learnership Programme 2026

The National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (NDPWI), in partnership with the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and the National Youth Service (NYS), has officially opened applications for the 2026 Built Environment Artisan Learnership Programme.

This 12-month structured programme, based in Idutywa (Mbhashe Municipality, Eastern Cape), is designed to help unemployed young people gain practical skills, workplace experience, and exposure to careers in the construction and built environment sector.

This is not a short-term relief initiative — it is a skills development pathway that prepares youth for employment, further training, or entrepreneurship.

National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (NDPWI)

NDPWI is responsible for managing national government infrastructure while driving job creation, skills development, and youth empowerment through public programmes.

Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)

Who Can Apply?

  • South African citizen
  • Aged 18–35 years
  • Resident within 20 km of Idutywa Magistrate Court
  • Unemployed
  • Interested in construction or the built environment
  • Grade 12 / Matric (Maths & Science advantageous but not compulsory)
  • Able to commit to the full 12-month programme

Proof of residence within the required radius is mandatory. Applications without valid proof will be rejected.
