About the GrandWest Bursary Programme
GrandWest, part of the Sun International Group, is one of Cape Town’s leading entertainment and hospitality destinations. Through its bursary programme, GrandWest supports education as a tool for community upliftment and skills development in the Western Cape.
The bursary is aimed at full-time undergraduate students studying at selected public universities in the province and is awarded for one academic year at a time, with the option to reapply based on performance.
Fields of Study Covered
The bursary supports full-time undergraduate studies only in the following areas:
- Agriculture
- Electrical Engineering
- Entrepreneurship
- Finance
- Human Resources
- Information Technology (IT)
- Marketing
- Mechanical Engineering
- Tourism and Hospitality
Postgraduate, part-time, and second-degree studies are not funded.
What the Bursary Covers
Successful applicants will receive funding for:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Textbook allowance of R5,000
What Is NOT Covered
- Accommodation or residence costs
- Living or transport expenses
- Study materials beyond the book allowance
- Outstanding debt from previous academic years
The bursary is non-repayable, but students are required to participate in community service projects and submit short progress or volunteer reports.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be under 27 years old
- Be a resident of the Western Cape
- Have completed Matric in South Africa
- Be studying full-time towards a first bachelor’s degree
- Be registered at one of the following institutions:
- University of Cape Town (UCT)
- University of the Western Cape (UWC)
- Stellenbosch University (SU)
- Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
- Have no carried-over subjects from a previous academic year
- Maintain a strong academic record
- Not be employed full-time
- Students with disabilities or impairments are encouraged to apply

Required Supporting Documents
Applicants must submit clear, certified copies of the following:
- South African ID (certified within the last 3 months)
- Matric certificate
- Proof of registration at one of the listed universities
- Full academic transcript (if already studying)
- Letter of acceptance (if available)
- Detailed university fee statement or quotation
- Course outline on official university letterhead
- Proof of parent/guardian income:
- Payslip if employed, or
- Affidavit if unemployed
- Details of any other bursaries or financial aid received
Missing or unclear documents may result in disqualification.
