About the Field Guiding Skills Programme

This is not a learnership, but a structured skills development programme designed to prepare young people for careers in:

  • Field guiding
  • Nature conservation
  • Eco-tourism
  • Protected area operations

The programme combines classroom-based training with real workplace experience inside a national park. SANParks will also cover training-related expenses when participants are required to attend training away from their home area.

By completing this programme, participants will gain skills in:

  • South African citizen aged under 35 years old.
  • Grade 12 (Matric) completed.
  • Currently unemployed.
  • Reside within 40–100 km of Bontebok National Park.
  • Clear criminal record and physically fit.
  • Must NOT have previously benefited from SANParks skills programmes, learnerships, or internships.
