About the Collins Chabane Municipality Bursary Programme 2026

The Collins Chabane Municipality Bursary Programme is aimed at supporting students from indigent households who cannot afford university or college registration fees.

This bursary helps students officially register at recognised tertiary institutions, making it easier for them to later access additional funding such as NSFAS or institutional bursaries.

What the Bursary Covers

The bursary provides funding for:

  • Registration fees only at a recognised tertiary institution

The bursary does NOT cover:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Books or study materials
  • Meals
  • Transport
  • Living allowances

Priority Fields of Study for 2026

Funding is limited to fields that support municipal and national development priorities, including:

Engineering & Planning

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Town Planning

Information Technology

  • Information Technology (IT)

Commerce & Law

  • Financial Management
  • Internal Auditing
  • Risk Management
  • Economics
  • Law

These qualifications are linked to employment opportunities within municipalities, government departments, and the private sector.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Come from an indigent household
  • Have completed Grade 12 (Matric) or be currently registered at a tertiary institution
  • Study or intend to study in an approved field
  • Reside within the Collins Chabane Municipality area
  • Submit all required supporting documents

Failure to meet any requirement may result in disqualification.

Required Supporting Documents

All applications must include certified copies of the following:

  • Applicant’s ID or Birth Certificate
  • Parents’ IDs or Birth Certificates
  • Proof of income for both parents
  • Matric results
  • Proof of registration at a tertiary institution
  • Proof of residence confirmed by:
    • A Councillor, or
    • A Traditional Leader (Induna)
  • A detailed motivation letter
