What the Bursary Covers
The Isaac Joffe Fellowship Bursary provides comprehensive financial support for the full duration of the degree, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
The bursary covers:
- Registration fees
- Full tuition fees
- Monthly book allowance for textbooks and study materials
- One-time computer allowance (laptop or upgrade)
- Personal allowance for essential expenses
- Accommodation and meals at a student residence, or a monthly living stipend for private accommodation
Funding is awarded annually and renewed each year based on academic performance. The bursary ends once the BEng degree is completed.

Duration and Selection Process
- Funding is awarded on a year-by-year basis
- Renewable annually, subject to strong academic results
- Bursary support ends upon completion of the degree
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a formal interview. Final outcomes will be communicated no later than 31 January 2026. Applicants who do not receive feedback by this date should consider their application unsuccessful.
Bursary Conditions and Obligations
Successful bursary recipients will be required to:
- Complete paid vacation work at Cape Gate during December and January
- Enter into a work-back agreement, committing to work at Cape Gate for the same number of years as the bursary was received
- Accept employment at a market-related salary determined by the company
Failure to honour the work-back obligation will result in repayment of the full bursary amount plus interest.

Applicants must intend to study a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in one of the following disciplines:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
Who Can Apply
To be eligible, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be in Matric or have completed Matric
- Be entering 1st or 2nd year of BEng studies in 2026
- Be registered or planning to register at a recognised South African university
- Have a strong academic record
- Demonstrate financial need
- Not be receiving any other bursary, scholarship, or financial aid

- First-year academic results (if already studying)
