60 artisan apprenticeship posts just opened in Gauteng If you’re under 35 and serious about mechanical or electrical engineering, this 36-month structured programme could turn you into a fully qualified artisan. Applications close 13 March 2026 — and competition will be tough.

South West Gauteng TVET College, in partnership with FoodBev SETA, has officially opened applications for the 2026 Centre of Specialisation (CoS) Apprenticeship Programme.

This is not a short course.

It is a 36-month structured apprenticeship designed to produce fully qualified artisans in high-demand engineering trades.

What Is the Centre of Specialisation Apprenticeship Programme?

The Centre of Specialisation (CoS) model combines:

  • Classroom theory
  • Practical workshop training
  • Workplace exposure
  • Formal trade qualification

Successful candidates will sign an ETQA agreement and employment contract.

At the end of 36 months, you qualify as an artisan in your chosen trade.

Which Trades Are Available in 2026?

Occupational Certificate: Fitter and Turner

  • Campus: Molapo
  • Duration: 36 Months
  • Positions: 25

Fitters and Turners machine, assemble, and maintain industrial components used in factories and engineering plants.

Occupational Certificate: Mechanical Fitter

  • Campus: Molapo
  • Duration: 36 Months
  • Positions: 25

Mechanical Fitters maintain and repair heavy industrial equipment such as pumps, turbines, and production machinery.

Occupational Certificate: Electricians

  • Campus: Roodepoort West
  • Duration: 36 Months
  • Positions: 10

Electricians work on electrical systems, industrial wiring, and power installations across construction and manufacturing sectors.

Who Qualifies for the Apprenticeship?

You must:

  • Be under 35 years old
  • Have Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics
  • Meet specific engineering subject requirements

What Are the Academic Requirements?

For Fitter & Turner or Mechanical Fitter:

One of the following:

  • Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics (technical subjects advantageous)
  • NCV Level 2–4: Fitting & Turning (21 subjects completed)
  • N2–N6 Mechanical Engineering (including Trade Theory)

For Electricians:

One of the following:

  • Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics
  • NCV Level 2–4: Electrical Infrastructure & Construction (21 subjects completed)
  • N2–N6 Electrical Engineering

Preference may be given to students who studied at South West Gauteng TVET College.

All applicants will undergo assessment processes.
